About Us
Our local Chapter of decorative painters are part of the Society of Decorative Painters, headquartered in Wichita Kansas. Our Boise Idaho Chapter, is one of two in Idaho. We have a long history starting with "Born in a Blizzard" January 30, 1981. It was one of the worst winter nights of the year when 22 devoted, curious, or just plain foolish painters arrived on Donna McKay's doorstep to put on paper plans to organize a Painting Chapter in the Boise, ID area.
The official Charter was awarded at the National Convention in 1982 in San Francisco. Our original logo was a "Potato Painter" that was later changed to the logo on a palette shape with the outline of the state of Idaho.
The Chapter has been growing from the original 22 members to more than 100 and draws members from Oregon, Utah and Nevada.
A few things have not changed as the Chapter grew:
- The annual birthday party for the Chapter is celebrated in January
- An ornament exchange is held in December at the Christmas party
- New painters are always welcome to join the Chapter
- New and Old painters continue to learn from each other.
