Welcome...
Do you Love to Paint? Looking for a hobby? Want to join a great organization dedicated to the Art of Decorative Painting? The following are excerpts from the National Society of Decorative Painters website.
Definition: Decorative painting is a diverse art form utilizing a variety of techniques and media to decorate functional and non-functional surfaces
Because of the systematic methods employed, contemporary decorative painting is a highly teachable art form. The patterns or freehand designs allow a high degree of success without academic training or inherent drawing ability. Approached with creativity, discipline and craftsmanship, contemporary decorative painting offers opportunities for artistic self-expression and creative satisfaction.
In the past the term tole painting was used to describe our art form. Today it is known as Decorative Painting and encompasses many mediums and surfaces.
"Do you think I could do this, I can't draw a straight line". The standard response is "yes, this is a learned art". The normal person is not born knowing how to paint and thus learn this skill through classes, observation, or books. As long as you can tell the difference between colors and shades, you can learn this art form.
Location
Our chapter meets monthly on the Third Saturday of the month except when it conflicts with other programs or July and August when there is no meetings those months.
We meet at the University of Phoenix in Meridian - 2950 Magic View Dr, #188, Meridian. The location is off Eagle Road, across Eagle Road from St Luke's Hospital. Turn on Allen (by McDonald's) and follow it around to Magic View Dr. The meeting starts at 9am, but there are lots of things like signups for classes, projects, committees, etc. that take place between 8 and 9AM.
